Asahiyama Memorial Park

~A park with a rich natural environment looking out over the rooftops of Sapporo ~
Asahiyama Memorial Park

Park Overview

The park was built in 1970 as one of a number of projects to commemorate Sapporo’s 100th anniversary. Located on a hilltop next to Mt. Moiwa and Maruyama, it offers a beautiful sweeping view of the Ishikari Plain, the Sea of Japan, and Sapporo’s cityscape.
Centered around the observation deck, located 137.5 meters above sea level, the park features an observation plaza, a stepped terrace, and a picnic area. Nearby is the Learning Forest, thickly wooded with trees including Siberian alder, Ezo spruce, and Kobushi Magnolia, as well as the Portland and Munich forests, commemorating Sapporo’s partnerships with its sister cities.
Other facilities include a rest house, a forest house, a suspension bridge, a playground, and an area for small children, so young and old alike can enjoy the park throughout the four seasons.
Moreover, despite being located within the city limits, Asahiyama Memorial Park is rich in nature, with wild birds and many other kinds of wildlife to be seen.
