This park also serves as a one of the main habitats in Hokkaido for many types of wild birds.<br \/>\nIn the Meiji Era, the main pond was created by damming up the Tsukisamu River to be used for water service facilities of the old army.<\/p>\n<p>The management of the area was eventually passed over from Toyohira City to Sapporo, and finished its services as water source facility in 1971.<br \/>\nBesides being used as a waterfront park, this area is also widely loved as an area for bird watching or a place of natural observation.<br \/>\nIn order to preserve this precious nature for years to come, a special classification change as a scenic zone was made to this park in 2008.<\/p>\n<h2>Water tower<\/h2>\n<div class=\"clearfix\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-17234\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sapporo-park.or.jp\/nishioka\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/lang01_01.jpg\" alt=\"Water tower1\" width=\"204\" height=\"281\" \/><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-17233\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sapporo-park.or.jp\/nishioka\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/lang01_02.jpg\" alt=\"Water tower2\" width=\"272\" height=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sapporo-park.or.jp\/nishioka\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/lang01_02.jpg 592w, https:\/\/www.sapporo-park.or.jp\/nishioka\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/lang01_02-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 592px) 100vw, 592px\" \/><br \/>\nThis was built in the Meiji Era, for the old army to use as their source of water.<br \/>\nIt was designated as a registered cultural asset of the country on September 14, 2001.<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Fireflies<\/h2>\n<div class=\"clearfix\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-17235\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sapporo-park.or.jp\/nishioka\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/lang02.jpg\" alt=\"Fireflies\" width=\"272\" height=\"181\" \/><br \/>\nThese are one of the types of insects that represent life around the Nishioka waterfront area.
